Just starting to examine some of my dollars. Think I may have a 1889 Morgan VAM 26? The left leg shows doubling, the arrow shafts show doubling and the die scratch is visable through my scope (not so much in the pic). I am not sure about the doubling on the right leg. Am I correct? Thasnks!

Last question (could not find a comparison pic on VAM World), is this a high 9?

Rest in Peace

It's not a VAM 26, that is a normal date position VAM. Yours appears to be a very far date position. Try VAM 8 and go from there. http://www.vamworld.com/1889-P+Obverse

edit to add - 1889 has a lot of doubling on the ear so yours could be in that category, such as VAM-32.

It sure looks like there is an "S" mint mark on the reverse. If this is so, then it should be easy to figure out which VAM it is because there are only 14 listed and it is a Far date coin for sure which will help narrow it down to the 5 Far Date VAMs that are listed. http://www.vamworld.com/1889+S+Obverses

1889-S are rare to find and it looks like you found a nice AU/BU coin. I would get this one graded if you have the money to send it in. Anacs would be a good choice for this one.

I think dave700x is right, VAM 8. The pic does look like it has a S mm, but it doesn't. Thanks! I spent about two hours tonight checking other Morgans, got through 4, I thought this was going to be easy.
