I've stumbled upon this strange 20 cent coin, it has a number 3 on it. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on this, as I have never seen this on a coin before.

This is my first time posting on this forum.

It's called a counterstamp. The 3 was stamped onto the coin after it left the mint, so it's PMD (post mint damage).

Thankyou for the information, I'm still learning about coins.

So I'm guessing its not too rare or anything?
I'll do some of my own research now since I know what to look for.

Not rare at all. Anyone could counterstamp a coin with 3.
However, there are some scarce counterstamps that could be found on classical coins
