I would have to go with G4.
Cannot see enough detail to make it a VG5

G4 at best but what makes you think its brass...Looks more like copper to me

A copper one would be even rarer than brass!
99.99% certain it's bronze

DBM I m probably wrong but I'm just stating what the Charlton guides says .95 copper .04 tin, ,01 zinc.....No mention of bronze

DBM , my bad was looking at the 1858 .. The 59 is bronze and not copper

No way to tell from a photo. Only XRF scan is conclusive, after a scratch test reveals yellow. You are far more likely to win a major lottery prize in your lifetime than find a brass cent.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

The bronze blanks were produced at the Heaton mint where copper blanks, coins and tokens were also being made. Wouldn't surprise me if somewhere along the way a copper strip was punched instead of a bronze one. Someday after many thousands of Provincial cents have been XRF tested a copper one may show up, stranger things have happened with our coins.
