when the coin was found it was secured in an old silver dollar folder with a piece of clear tape right over it (ouch!!) after carefully removing it, there is now a two-tone to the coin. shiny under the strip and tarnish from where it was exposed to the air. am thinking it was cleaned with silver polish at one time? if so how much does it hurt the value?

I'm going to disagree with the cleaned assessment. Where the tape was there appears to be mint luster. The toning isn't the most attractive but I wouldn't try to remove it.
Value wise, my guess would be $30 to possibly $50. Better pictures would help determine what this grades and a more accurate valuation.

It doesn't look cleaned to me either. Looks like a nice coin. You may want to soak it in acetone if there is any residual tape residue.

Doesn't look cleaned to me, even on the face. The face just looks a little funny from the tape

The tape prevented the covered area from toning. I'd give it an acetone treatment.

Looks more like a tape or paper line to me.

If this was an ebay auction with those pics and a return policy, I'd be in at $75. No return policy, I'd be in at $60... just to give you an idea of what I probably figure it grades if acetone'd and dipped (If I'm getting it graded). Shot 65.

I'm far from a toned coin fan so I'd actually dip it in something to get rid of all the toning. Since I never sell a coin, makes no difference to me if cleaned or not.

thanks all for your comments. I have this one along with around 5 others and I am wondering if it is worth getting them graded. I have never graded any of my coins and don't know the cost, or even the best company to use to grade them.
