I kind of got this idea from a comic book forum that I attend regularly, but I think it would be a neat way to show off some of our keys and such. Clubs are started by one member posting anywhere from a major key date to a minor key date, so lets say...the 1921-D Mercury dime club. Once that member posts that coin, other members join that club by posting their 1921-D merc(you can only join a club that has a coin that you own in it). The person who starts the club regularly keeps track of the membership list and updates. Anyone can start a club with something really rare that he wonders if anyone else has, turning it into kind of an elitist club...or can start a club with something really common, that will build a huge membership list. The club maker gets to make the rules, so if he'd rather make one specific for a rare coin type or variety...that goes too. Or something to a specific rare mint would make sense. Like the "Dahlonega" club, where anything from that mint becomes a member(this would be more inclusive since specifying a date/type from this rare mint may not allow for many members) Sound like fun? Its a huge hit in the comic forums with key books, so I was wondering why it wouldnt translate here too....to go along with the really fun way of sharing coins that Moe started. I will start out in another thread, with one of the most popular, yet most common keys out there....the 1909-s vdb. edit: just realized that the 1909-s vdb will end up in the modern section, so I also started the 1877 cent club to get the ball rolling in the classic section too. Sounds kind of elitist to me. "I have this key date and you don't so you can't post here." Nice way to fragment a membership.
Eh, not a fan.
Now if you did something like added badges for acquiring certain coins or completing sets or something, and those would show up in your profile, now that would be cool. Nobody gets left out of the discussion, and you still get bragging rights.

Op did say can be key date or not so clubs don't have to be only for a key date

I never said you couldn't post in the thread if you didn't have the coin. You can post in any thread...you just have to have that coin to be in the club. Also, as IOWA guy said, it can be ANY coin...Any member can make up a club to join with his type of coin. I guess if you own no coins at all, you will not be able to create a club to be in....other than that, you are good to go.

I too don't see much to this. For example lets start with the 1916D Mercury dime. I doubt most of the members here have one. On the other hand I have 10 of them. So I'm a member of this 10 times and others feel left out? What about the person that starts out with his 1913 Liberty Head Nickel? Being a bit of a pessimist but just don't see this one.

I think it would be neat where you could get a "badge" under your post count of what "club" you were in for key dates or something.

Its more about sharing coins as opposed to bragging about what your a member of, or how many memberships you have....its not like being a member is anything other than that anyways, there are no special benefits. I'm down to only 5 dansco albums and about 8 slabs in my entire collection, so there are plenty of memberships that I wouldn't be in....but I'd still enjoy seeing other members coins. I guess folks can take the membership, or lack thereof too personally

This link may get disbarred, but here is an example of how it works over in the collector society...This in particular is for those who own The Incredible hulk #1 comic(1st appearance of the hulk) http://boards.collectors-society.co...t=40&fpart=1 Looking back at my comic collection, it was these types of threads that motivated me even more to go after some of the big silver age keys....and I am really glad that I did. The Collector Society "clubs" are more particular to major key books. I wanted to change it a bit, which is why I thought we could have folks make their own clubs for minor keys, scarce but cheap colonials or whatever they wanted,....keep it really open ended so it wasn't reserved for only high dollar material. If it doesn't work, and people get all offended that they aren't in a particular club....then that is too bad and this probably wont work very well. I cant participate in all of Moe's "days of" threads, but I enjoy sitting on the sidelines and viewing them, and am certainly not offended that I cant always participate.

I like this idea! It would be great for reference purposes to be able to view a single thread showing numerous examples of a coin in varying grades.
