The zodiac symbol of Cancer is dates June 21 - July 22, so it may have been part of a set of the entire zodiac symbols

I have never seen this one but I have seen US cents with Santa Claus, John F. Kennedy and a heart with "I Love You" in it. I guess folks just do these sometimes.

Defacing coinage like this is technically illegal in Canada (and most other countries), but it's perfectly legal to do things like this in America. It seems to have become fashionable to do so back in the 1960s and 1970s, it's a common enough fate for 1970s Lincolns; roll hunters can probably assemble sets of all 12 zodiac signs and all fifty states with minimal effort.

Cool, never seen a counter-stamped zodiac in all my years of coin hunting.

I would have to disagree here. I would think it would be extremely difficult.

Ive found Tennessee and Indiana, thats about it. And no zodiacs. Feel free to list the States you have found counterstamped in your cents while coin hunting.

The fact you got a Canadian roll of cents from the bank is more amazing than a counterstamped US cent. I asked my banks what they do with forgiegn coins and they said they avoid them. I even told them I would pay them US for them if they found any, but even a single Canadian cent if they see it, they must reject it because it isn't money here.

I have never found a state or much any other counterstamp, only a 4-leaf clover on a cent, and Lincoln stamped on a Kennedy. I actually think I remember a long time ago people putting these "lucky penny"s in those little keychain bottles and selling them, so the one I got must have come from one of those broken open. no telling what kind of novelty items you could find from the 70s like that. Makes me wonder if more puns exist, like a cent with bread on it. a "penny loaf"?

As far as I know, counterstamps typically don't increase the value of the coin. More of a curiosity than a collectible.

6 boxs and no zodiac iam gonna say it would be extremely difficult to find at least I have something new too look for wouldn't mind saving a few cents with them on it just for fun! Kinda wish the mint would do something like this but not on the large scale of say the State Quarters maybe more like 1 in every 50k would have some kind of small stamp

At one time I was thinking of starting a collection of counter strikes but decided against it. I did have quite a few but turned them in for somebody else to collect.

Is anybody out there collecting them at all?

Here's one I have which I received as change when I went to the US, also a 1973 Lincoln; this one is Kennedy.
