I have several Canadian silver dollars that have very attractive toning and yet I see a lot of them that end up with a dull sort of hazy toning. Any ideas out there on how these coins may have been stored to develop the pretty colors some have? Are the hazier ones the ones that were kept in original mint packaging? Any and all ideas welcome.

Thank you Oasis, I have a 53 NSF Dollar that is it's twin toning wise. I'll image it someday once I learn how to take decent photos myself.

Beautiful '58. Quote: Are the hazier ones the ones that were kept in original mint packaging? Except for 1949 all GeoVI and Elizabeth business strike silver dollars, such as yours, left the mint in bags. Perhaps some of you nicely toned coins spent a long time in the bags close to the canvas surface.

I had a news letter from PCGS last week that had some high prices on some Canadian dollars with toning. 1971 BC 50% SP 1$ for the $400 area. I have 4 of them that I ordered from the mint in 1970 area that are really toned with rainbow like toning and came with the black display boxes. with the red holder
I'm hoping they could bring that kind of money then I could buy some coins I need.
Thanks Gary

The 1971, 72, and 73 coins can all take on incredible toning and can be found ungraded in original boxes in quantity for under 20 bucks tops. Anyone who PAYS big bucks for these A........needs their head read. B......is a current buyer of RCM NCLT at crazy prices or C..........both A and B!

Thanks for the input. I thought that their price was way out of the market price. Just hopeing. That one on ebay went for $55. US dollars. I thought that PCGS was keeping closer to the real retail prices and not inflated. So I guess you must check their prices else where before a purchase. I have several halves that are toned like your 1952 dollar and some QEII and they are very eye appealing like yours.

For something different, here's my 1935 dollar. Almost completely white, light gold on the periphery of the reverse.

Size is OK, toning isn't evident.
