Hello I'm new to forums so if I do something wrong please let me know. My wife had found these 2 1$ bills in a book she recently bought and I have never seen any like it before. I have no knowledge of paper money so any information would be helpful. Thanks

What you have is likely a pair of notes from an uncut sheet. The photos are too small to tell the serial numbers or series.

The BEP sells uncut sheets in 4 sizes, yours would have originally been an 8 subject, 16 subject or 32 subject.

Sorry about the picture being to small hopefully this one is better. The series is 1985. I was reading that the letters before and after the serial numbers have a little to do with the value is this true? I have looked at alot of uncut notes on the internet and have not seen any with a border across the top like the one I have. Thanks for the quick response.

Looks like it's from a 32 bill sheet: http://www.legendaryauctions.com/It...503a_lg.jpeg

You can see the black bard up at the top

A little more research shows that your notes are definitely from an uncut sheet of 32. http://www.uspapermoney.info/general/uncut.html

The strip across the top is called selvage. As uncut sheets this was left on whereas on notes issued for circulation it is cut off.

As far as the letters and serial numbers, I don't see anything that would add a substantial amount of value.

I am not very knowledgeable about values when it comes to currency, let's see what others have to say.

I'd say little to no extra value. The bill on the right has been bent as well as possibly the one on the left.

Even if these are from a small print run, the attrition is low since they are kept as collectibles so many are still likely to exist.

Many of the older sheets ( pre 1990) were issued by the BEP with the selvage intact. The marks are printers alignment marks. The 5-digit number is a printing plate control number.

Most collector sheets issued after 1990 have the selvage trimmed off.

Your 2 note sheet is worth a couple of bucks over face, maybe a couple of more if someone needs that block combination.

Probably they have no extra value but you got them for free so keep them. Not every day you find uncut notes.
