Hi. I found this 1984d penny. Is it damaged? The mint mark looks messed up, I think it is damaged, or is this signs of a overworked die? Any help would be great. Thanks.

my first thought was it was caused by a gas bubble from zinc rot

There was a split in the plating at the mintmark causing the exposed zinc to corrode. The zinc corrosion produces gases that push up the copper plating which then tears. It can happen at one spot or many. So it is just common damage that you will see a lot on zinc cents.
