Hrmm I suppose I should've been more specific...
I was hoping for books on coins.. specifically Canadian ones... I don't have many tokens but I love learning the history on them... and I have been reading up on Dr. Haxby's work with the large cents...
But you know what? Let's really open it up... any books would be good...
Personally I read a whole lot more non-fiction really... mostly magazines... as the only time I really read is when I'm in the bathroom .. magazines are perfect you can get an article done & done... TMI? I like reading about finances and financial magazines... I like fitness magazines.. and like anything that has to do with how people learn...
I think the last book(s) I read were "Pillars of the Earth" and "Birdsong" (I do like my WWI & WWII novels!)
So let's hear it..
Coin related books... or perhaps just a really good read.. please give me your suggestions..

Okay...
I'm a bit of a history junkie and this is related to coins or what was used as currencies at the time (because economics drives policy, it seems)
I just finished "Before the Industrial Revolution - Europeon Society and Economy, 1000 - 1700 by Carlo M. Cipolla Am currently reading Feudal Society by Marc Bloch (Gotta love the Folio Society for republishing old editions!)
Medieval Civilization by Jaques Le Goff is in the cue...
Are you getting sleepy yet? :)

How 'bout: Krause World Coins, covering the last four centuries? Not much of a storyline, but nevertheless a comprehensive statement of the development of World coinage, over the last four hundred years. I have about 2,000 books covering technical subjects: numismatics books, on both ancient and modern coinages, U.S. Mallet steam locomotives, WW1 and 2 aircraft and ships, both military and civil, heavy military arms and armour, classic cars, (I own an old Mercedes), spacecraft and spaceflight, horology, gemnology and gemcutting, (I am a gemcutter), Christian reference and devotional books, World geology, geography and history. No novels or poetry, unfortunately; I am a complete literary Philistine!

Well.. Sel.. I just ordered the 5 set of Krause books... although let's be honest that wouldn't be a good read... that's a reference book...
What book would you suggest for coins... that's informative and can teach me something about this great hobby..

why not write your own book or chronicle.? it would take up more time than money. and you would have a record of the coins/tokens when and how and where you got them about how you started etc. and what you have learned over time. it may not sell a zillion copies. but you might cherish it as much as the coins themselves(imo) I wish i`d started a while ago. I think you could post installments on this board

If you are into World War II I think you will enjoy "In Our Hearts We Were Giants: The Remarkable Story of the Lilliput Troupe-A Dwarf Family's Survival of the Holocaust".
For your number 2 reading Uncle John's Bathroom Readers is a good way to go. I believe number 13 covers the ice cream dime and other expensive coins.
Also if you want to combine World War II and numismatics there is "World War II Remembered: History in Your Hands, a Numismatic Study". I haven't personally read it but it is one my want list.

Try Monumental Coins by Marvin Tamenko.
I am not sure if you can buy it but the library might have it.
Also there are good reads on the internet. So if you don't mind reading stuff on the ipad or such then you just google a topic you like and you come up with great reads.
I particularly like the banknote information produced by the people in US

Does anyone have anything to suggest for newfoundland and maritime coinage.. Right now as it stands in my shopping cart at Amazon are the following books... 1) The official blackbook guide to world coins (0.01) 2) coins of canada by J. Haxby (0.01) 3)striking impressions J. Haxby (0.10) 4) A guide book of Canadian Coins (14.60) -considering counterfeit portrait eight reales - but I'm not sure how much value I will get out of it... as it's not a coin a collect.. but I think with 600 pages there may be a few things I could learn that would cross over to canadian coins... I would really like either something that could teach me more on how to detect counterfeit coins or something about newfie and maritime coins... I tried searching on Amazon a few of the other suggestions that piqued my interest... but no hits... (billfrak I have seen one with almost the exact same title but it was a seminar in Regina and by someone with a different name... ) Anyways... any other suggestion.. would love to hear 'em as I hope to buy all this by the end of tonight...

I picked up three books from here: http://www.brookstonepublishing.com/both 5 Cent references and the "Price guide for Canadian Coins Pro. edition" All are awesome for identifying varieties. Lots of fun. I don't pay attention to price guides anymore. Prices are wacky. I have six books coming from Amazon; Canadian coin digest Coin collecting for Dummies A guide book of canadian coins A guide to getting started investing in Numismatics Collecting Rare Coins; For pleasure and profit The experts guide to Collecting and Investing in Rare Coins, Its all fun. I hunted down all the Charlton Coin Editions. I have most of the 68th editions.
