Hi, I'm new to the forums. My question is:

What has a better chance of price appreciation:
High grade VAMs or generics?

For instance, would you buy one VAM 1-F MS 65 1921 high relief Peace dollar or 10 MS 65 generic Morgans?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about the VAM... I'd just get the highest quality key date I could. Preferably a '93-S.

Welcome to Coin Community, Dixon11111. I'd lean against buying VAMs. Very few are well-enough sorted out yet to have any firm long-term view of "investment" value. For my money, instead of 10-MS65's I'd be looking for one killer MS67 from a low pop.

Although chasing VAMs is an additional step in the pursuit of Morgans - sorta like an addicted cigarette smoker also hooked on menthol. I was one of those once and 22 years after the fact I am now one of these!

Who was it that said to make (AKA end up with) a million dollars in VAMS you need to start with 10 million dollars.

Thanks for the replys!

I guess the same holds true for the high premiums GSA and other hoard coins?

In my opinion if you have to ask this question, stick to mutual funds.

I agree with Conder. I would advise against investing in coins. FWIT, I would rather have 50 MS61-62 Morgans than 10 65s or even a 67. But that's just because I want as many as possible. Investment potential isn't a factor for me either, though.
