Found this coin amongst some world stuff, looks like someone turned a decent large cent into some type of jewelry piece... Has anyone seen anything similar or know the history of why this was done?

If you do a CCF search for "Love Token" you may see a few more like this.

Yours is particularly attractive with the color added!

, too.

Usually I shake my head -- why do people do such things to coins? But this is really nice. It looks like enamel was used for the color and it is clearly the work of a jeweler with some skills.

You might be able to tell from the rim if it was in a bezel or had something attached to make it a pendent.

Haha, every love token I had seen before has been far more crude than this, Buddy, I checked out the rim and it does look like it may have been mounted at some point, but was very skillfully removed, almost no trace on the rim, the entire rim has actually been reeded, which I didn't catch before!

Love tokens on cents or large cents are quite unusual, and this is an exceptional one!

I have a few love tokens and yours is the nicest by far I have seen. The ones I have are initials carved into the reverse with no color. Although the carving is nice, I would throw them out if I had yours. I'm sure someone would pay you good money for that

Well we will find out

Just listed online, curious to see what it will bring, I agree it's a beautiful piece but I have little to no interest in this aspect of collecting...

Should be fun to see what it goes for!
