Yes that is correct. A tripled die. On my coin you can see areas where the tripling happened and most other areas just show doubling. This is hard to get good images of. I took 11 to get 6 nice ones. I thought everyone would like a view:

This is not a new find. I found a few years back and re-took the images.

It is a class 2 spread to the center. I tried Wexler's publication and didn't find a match.

Very cool - I had to recheck my 1963 (too much wear to find that fine of detail and mine is a business strike).
Rest in Peace

Is it only found on proof coins or are there circulated coins with this triple die?
Great pictures BTW.

AMB.. there is at least 271 DDR for year and mint mark 1963-P

highest number I seen is 1963P WDDR-271

doubled dies are found for both proof and business strike 1963p

tripled dies for 1963p are only found on proofs

However there are nice business strike tdr for a 1956-P, 1962-P

1956P WDDR-015 CONECA DDR-002 (2-R-II); Nice Class II doubling on EPU, UNUM is tripled
1962P WDDR-025a (14-R-II) Nice tripled Class II spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Very nice Coop! Proof errors have always intrigued me. A triple die is mind blowing!

No matching marker for 067. The tripling is a lot stronger on AMERICA than that die number.

Awesome photos of an awesome coin. If there's a quadruple out there I'm guessing you'll find it!

I'm just opening the eyes to the possibility. There are some quads already found mention in Wexler's book.
