I have just been put in charge of selling my family coin collection. I have very little experience in this area but more than the rest of my family (I love penny collecting). They are (I believe) mostly from Franklin Mint and are mostly silver with a few gold pieces. A lot are Canadian but there are a few from other places. Any advise would be great, or if you know of any appraisers that are trustworthy, I am in Calgary, Alberta.
The Franklin Mint has its own site and you might find items from your collection still listed for sale there. You can check on ebay to see what those items are being sold for -- be sure to check for "Sold" figures.
Most coin collectors don't buy from the Franklin Mint but there are probably sites devoted to such collectables.
re: Franklin Mint, yeah, unless you find someone actually wanting the trinkets, you may only be offered the Ag value by a dealer, but since your cost is 'zero', that still will be better than nothing.
most Franklin mint stuff is silver or just over there is NO secondary market on over 98 per cent of it . In Calgary there are several reputable dealers.
