Hello,

I am a newer collector of world coins looking for an OFEC coin list. If anyone has a list or can show me where to get a list it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Rest in Peace

That's going to be tough, because everyone defines it a little differently.
What constitutes a country?
For my OFEC (though I actually do three from each) I do not include countries only issuing NCLT, such as Antarctica, Pitcairn Island, etc. I do include coins that circulated, even if the fact of "countryhood" was debatable or flat out non existent, such as Katanga and Isle of Lundy (originals, not re-issues)
For some, I count a country multiple times if they themselves considered themselves a new entity, as France, Kingdom; France, First Republic; France, First Empire; France, Restoration; France, Second Republic; France, Second Empire; France, Third Republic; France, Vichy; France, fourth/fifth republic. Same, say Estonia, first republic; Estonia, modern gets counted as two countries.
What is your start date for consideration? Only exists now? Post 1900? Post 1800? Post 1500? Ever?
This has been discussed in this forum before, do a search on the forum for OFEC, pay particular attention to replies from SAP.

I have done searches and seen SAP's comments. However, I have not seen an actual list in any of the forums. I would honestly like any list available.

Best starting place would be to get a Krause album of world coins, 1901-2000 and 2001 to date. If you aren't tarribly concerned about super accurate prices (which aren't accurate anyway) buy older editions, you can frequently pick them up at about a quarter the cost of the most current edition, and 99.9% of the changes will just be to the pricing. These will help you identify the odd coins and will give you a good starting list. Also check out the WorldCoinGallery website for id's

You can start here with a basic list: http://en.numista.com/

It has its problems but I find it useful.

Finally someone who agrees with me on these being different countries!
Out of your France list, I have coins from... well I don't have any coins from the Restoration and Second Republic, all the rest I have at least one coin of (plus a couple French feudal places from the 17th century).
Could you give me similar lists for Britain, Russia and Germany? I keep getting confused which versions are or aren't different (France is easier in that regard, though I didn't think of adding the Restoration).

Yahoo! Group - search for 'every country'

Fairly active arguing the minutia and their full list is almost 10k issuers

numista.com is a good starting point, but changes its criteria from time to time on what is or isn't a "country".

you will have to decide for yourself what you include or not.

I avoid fantasy coins/tokens, and try to avoid commemorative (NCLT) and FAO dollars but at 291 I am starting to run out of affordable options (I also do not double up on places like Italian or German states / Notgeld where one could add dozens if you counted each 'state' as its own entity)
