ANACS is a reputable TPG? Their coins sell quite well and are acceptable to list on ebay.com. They have a highly visible presence and a searchable data base. We send some coins to ANACS and never a problem. They have a very visible presence at a lot of US coin shows that we attend and are quite pleasant to deal with. The show specials they have are usually an awesome deal as compared to PCGS. I have no idea what a problem living close to the US border and having a US address creates. Please do enlighten us. The fact that he has in 47P7 words "endless and deep pockets" also is meaningless and certainly none of anyone on the forums business. Yes indeed ole Danloss was a contributor and had lots to say on here . He does come up with some odd and interesting stuff. When you have an ebay store some of the free listing can be used to show super high off the wall pricing. All part of advertising.

There is no need for speculation here. The seller is entitled to list their items at any price they want... Other dealers use the same tactic, not because they actually expect anyone to buy it - but to advertise the piece, and perhaps catch the attention of a serious buyer. The most important question raised in this thread was: Quote: What would anyone estimate the market value of said coin actually is?

One of these were listed on ebay about 4-5 months ago----listed as a trial piece , not a mule--about $4500-- I need to be educated about the difference.

A mule is a mint error where a coin is minted with a set of dies that were never intended to go together. For example some of the dimes in the 2010 Lynx Kittens Specimen set were made with a 2009 obverse die and a 2010 reverse die. These were noticed because the Specimen finish was changed between 2009 and 2010 so the dime has a smoother finish on the obverse and the newer linen style finish on the reverse.
The following is taken from Charlton 2015 Vol1 pg 244. 1. A Pattern is a piece submitted as a design sample by engravers when a new coinage is contemplated. If the design is adopted for regular coinage with the same date, the piece ceases to be a pattern. If the design is adopted with a later date, the piece remains a pattern. Patterns are usually struck as proofs. 2. A Trial Piece is from dies already accepted for regular coinage. It may bear a date or mint mark other than on the coins issued for circulation or it may be in a different metal. 3. An Official Fabrication is a piece that was created for some special purpose unconnected with design proposals or experiments on coinage design or metals. For example, the New Brunswick pieces bearing the date 1870, 1871 and 1875 were obviously not connected with an attempt to revive a separate coinage for that province after Confederation. 4. An Essay Piece is a piece with a design submitted for approval purposes. Usually uniface, but at times may be joined by approved obverse.

Your picture looks like the one found on pg 252 of Charlton 2015 Vol 1. Province of Canada - Trial Pieces. Silver, plain edge, specimen, medal, 4.5g, 23.7mm dia; dies coinage 4.03g, 23.stmm dia; obverse adopted design; reverse - adopted design for New Brunswick (National currency Collection)
Charlton # PC-4, Bowman # B-6, SP63-65 $15k-$35k
The crown, leaves and bows are noticeably different from those of the circulation 1858 20c Canada.

Going back and looking at the original listing from the OP it is the same as 'yours' @labecolin; a Trial Piece PC-4. IMHO calling it a Mule in the title is a mistake.

4797, I live two minutes from Maine, my sister is thinking about getting an American address. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? I do not use TPG but from what I know ANACS isn't a McGrader. Ya, you do need to enlighten us, you made a half cryptic/ half rambling post criticizing danloss so speak up and clarify what you mean, this is a forum for sharing information. Saying no an doing the online version of going "na na na na I can't hear you" is quite childish

Harmonica, I suggest you re-read my post. whatever YOU wish to read into it or think about it, that is entirely your business. and NO, I will not elaborate or say what I think, or know. one of them would be speculation, the other would be telling something I know but do not wish to tell.

Certainly see nothing nefarious going on here. Lots of Canadians have USA mailing addresses and indeed USA dollar bank accounts. Agree with Harmonica on this one.
