Placed a bid on this Half Cent last night and went to bed. In the morning I was surprised to see that I won it. What grade you would assign (seller's photo)?

yes, it is hard to tell how much chatter there is on the reverse and how much is pixelation.

Nice looking coin from the photos. Will be interesting to see what she's like in hand. I'd go at least AU on it, but without better photos it is hard to tell if it has wear or not. Looks well struck, however. I think you got yourself a winner.

Based on these pics, I would have spent AU money with no problem. I think you're going to find that it is UNC when you get it in-hand. Please post better pics in this thread when you receive it. Even with the slightly roughened surface on the reverse, I think you may have an MS61-62 coin.

AU50 - although I have a cb H1c in nearly identical condition that I bought as an AU55. Last week I got it back from ANACS in a EF45 holder.

Hard to tell from the pics, but I'm thinking AU-MS, slightly leaning towards MS.

Toning looks a little off to me. Wonder why one that looks this nice isn't slabbed? If it looks too good to be true it usually is.

Thanks everyone for your comments! There is a just a little rub on Liberty's cheek. It is not significantly marked up on the reverse. Toning looks good, does not look funky, but there are some not so attractive dark areas at the edges. I'm thinking AU-55 or AU-58. (MS-63 if you add the five points for ownership.) Very nice Half Cent, Bryan1315!

WOW, a beautiful 1/2 cent. I'd say MS-64.
Thanks for sharing :-) Ben

"Wonder why one that looks this nice isn't slabbed?" Most of the well known and finest collections are NOT "slabbed." Most purists consider "slabbing" blasphemy. Ex. The Jules Reiver Sale: http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/s...11080&si=123His entire collection was holdered, and considered by most to be overgraded, by NGC prior to sale. Currently, most Reiver pieces offered are once again liberated and accompanied by the NGC insert.

Ok Ok. I'm no fan of slabbing, nor an advocate. I've never slabbed a coin. My comment merely was meant to say that many early, uncirculated coppers, have been slabbed because of grading difficulty and attempts to alter or clean and tone them that are so common. I am probably completely off base and I hope that I am, but the all over even toning looks unatural in the pictures that were presented. In addition, there is what appears to be some corrision or pitting on the reverse under the bow. I have never seen that in a coin that seemingly retains all the mint luster. The only important thing is that t360 is happy with it! Peace!
