Has anyone tried these Lighthouse Optima pages where you just directly put the coin in the page without a 2x2, etc?

Lighthouse-Optima-

I'm a little leery given that every album I've seen like this in the past has turned the coins green, and even my mint sets in plastic have turned hazy. But the desciption says "made from special film free of chemical softeners", which I assume means it isn't PVC.

These would just be really convenient for world and other misc coins that are less valuable, but you still want organized and presentable. I emailed the company to ask about long term archival safety so we will see what they say.

If you don't recommend these, can you recommend an album or page for 2x2 cardboard flips that is safe for long term?

Well I haven't got a reply yet, but looking closer at the description on another store, it appears the coins actually go in mylar transparent sleeves that then slide inside the pockets in the page. So it's just a more elegant version of a 2x2 coin flip album page but without the cardboard. I do like that they have pages that fit a LOT of coins and mixed sizes, too.

I like the concept. I don't do any of my coin storage in flips or 2x2's (I do albums), but this is intriguing. If anyone tries this out, let me know because I have a pile of miscellaneous coins that might just work out well in this type of solution.

Regarding the physicality's of these albums there are about 7 different format pages and at the top you pull out a strip of coin holders. In the photo you've displayed it's 2 vertical strips each containing inlets for 5 coins which insert on the left and right of the strip (the outer edges) while the middle is a 'backbone'. That specific sheet is good for half crowns and florins but they do tend to roll anti/clockwise with movement of the album. Not to sure about the chemical makeup of the album though. I use it for lower grade coins. Unfortunately the back side of the sleeve is textured which detracts from viewing. Bewildered as to why they textured the back instead of leaving it clear like the front.

I love naturally toned coins and my paradox is storage VS viewing. To maintain the beautiful colours of a naturally toned coin they need to be kept from atmospheric sulfur compounds in 'various holders/albums'. But when they're stored this way, say lighthouse 2X2, the thin film covering the face of the coin causes light diffraction as its hovering above the surface so you don't get to appreciate the toned beauty of the coin as your preserving it from intense dark toning. This is the paradox - to view the coin conservatively whilst never really seeing its current beauty.

I hope I came across succinctly and, as a novice, would love feedback on this dilemma. What holders do you recommend and loupes ? I use a cheap LED 40X that cost under $5 ?

I bought a collection of coins that were displayed in an album with these pages.

The main drawback I find is that when I pull a slide out to get at a particular coin, other coins tend to slide out too.

Also, if I'm carrying albums, smaller coins tend to rotate in their pocket so that they're not the right way for viewing.

Thanks for the feedback!

Well after taking these cons into consideration along with the high price and proprietary nature of the Albums and pages, I ended up just ordering stock 3 ring binder pages. I will use some cheap binders and 2x2 cardboard for now. If I end up with some special sets or higher value series that doesn't have a dansco style album, I may revisit something a little nicer looking like the Optima.
