I've been using the Dansco albums, but I don't like that you can't grab the acrylic sheets. Whitman and maybe others offer a little slot so you can easily grab them, but I don't have any experience with any others. What's the general feeling?

i got some whitman albums. it can sometimes be tricky to put in the coin in the small coins, so be careful if you are trying to piece together an UNC/BU set

Funny you say that, because my next project will be to collect short set of AU/BU Walkers. I need an opinion on what's the best album with this collection in mind.

I like Dansco, I wish they had a little cutout so you can grab the acrylic slides.

Dansco's are great. But don't dismiss the Blue Whitman albums. In my mind, a very close second (as long as the quality holds up).

I'm a big Whitman Album fan. I really don't like Dansco due to the no slot for grabbing the plastic slides. Another irritating thing in many Dansco Albums is the empty slots at the end. Just really poor design issues not being able to figure out how many slots are needed in an Album. So many people brag about the so called rich Brownish color of a Dansco but then hide them away anyway. Whitman has a much larger selection of Albums and some that you can make yourself. Also, I like the ability to find them in many hobby stores unlike many others that must be ordered on line. You so seldom hear anyone mentioning postage. Of course there are many other organizations that make them too. Littleton is one many people I know really like. And if you look up in Google for Coin Albums, you'll find a lot more. Someone, not long ago posted that some company on line has some really cheap ones too.

Horses for courses.
It really depends on what kind of collector you are, and what kind of album really best suits your needs.
I am a World and ancients collector, and so an album that has spaces available for specific coins would not suit me. 2x2's in polypropylene or Mylar album pages are the best storage for my needs. The 2x2 allows for a written description of the coin contained therein.
If you are building a specific say, a 7070 type set or a dimes set, your requirements will be much different to mine.
Basically, it depends on what level of protection you need for them and how you wish to display them.
I have to admit, I don't really like the idea of a sliding clear window that rubs directly over the face of a coin, or the 'press in' type of album. I any event, neither of these types of albums allow for slabbed coins. Fortunately, albums DO exist for slabbed coins, which can make for quite a reasonable presentation of slabbed coins.

I'm not impressed with my Littleton. The slides scratch easily, the binder is overly thick and the coins are difficult to get in the holes like it's a cheap folder.

When I was using folders, my collection was in Whitman folder. But when I started changing to albums, the Whitman albums included coins that I felt were not really part of the coin set. The Dansco albums included or excluded coins that agreed with my collection ideas, so I went with Dansco. I have not tried Littleton albums, so I have no opinion of them.

First post, lets go with a joke and the truth.
Best album is Jimi Hendrix 'Band of Gypsys: Live at the Fillmore East'.
As for coin albums, not a fan. I have a few Capital Holders cases that my LCS gave me (1800's type set, gold type set, and an Ike set but only through 76). Don't think I would have paid for them. They look nice, but I really don't display them on a bookshelf or anything like that. Kind of like the 2x2's in my red boxes. They pack up better / take up less space.
Really lucky in the LCS department, I have 2 coin stores within the block. Technically we have three on the block, but the good one is closing down his one and opening a new store.
Couldn't have two more different dealers.
The good one always has someone there. Always. The bad one is outside feeding the squirrels and checking out his competition's traffic.
Never once have I gotten a good deal out of the bad dealer. Never. Basically ruined coin collecting for me and God knows how many other kids in the 70's and 80's. How the heck the guy is still in business is beyond me. Good dealer recognized me after my first 3 - 4 weekly visits and doesn't try and take advantage of his knowledge on price, more of a teacher. You feel like a silent partner in the coin store when you leave.

I have a couple of Intercept shield albums and I like them better than Dansco or Whitman. Better to get them for a series that is no longer minted as they don't make them anymore

Dansco is the best. Thread over. While personal taste is big part of it, sometimes it is just chance. When I was a wee lad my grandfather just happened to buy me two Dansco albums, so I stuck with them.

Great input. I'll probably stick with Dansco, as I already have a couple. For the holders, I'm storing in the plastic boxes and putting a printed sticky label in the Dansco album under the empty coin spot.....see pix.

Odd that if you go to Google and type in Coin Albums there are a lot less than in the past. Seams like some companies are dropping out of the coin album market.

As far as new albums with wide series coverage, you pretty much just have Whitman, Dansco and Littleton.
