I seen a posting of a certified coin (PCGS) and it had 'OGH' in the title. Anyone know what this means?

Stands for old green holder, the older PCGS holders. I think it's also what they call the "rattler" because the coins rarely fit snug and rattled if you shook them. I'm sure others can confirm or deny that.
Maybe we can come up with a good definition here and I'll add it to the glossary.

Thanks! I seen the term 'rattler' before too, but wasn't sure what that meant either. I think I've learned at least 10 new coin terms this week! LOL

I'm pretty sure those two terms refer to the same holder.

Rattlers are rattlers (although some people who in my opinion don't know what they are talking about do call the OGH) To me the OGH should be used for the green labeled holders used from 1990 to 1995. These were the holders whose labels were not color stable and the turned many different colors. Then there are the New Green Holders used from 1995 to late 1998. Most people also call these OGH because they don't know or can't tell the difference between the OGH and the NGH. Basically when the blue label holders came out in late 1998 everything before that became "OGH"

keep hanging around, you know you're in with a crowd of label collectors when they start drooling when someone mentions a doily label. Sorry, I just hate labels.

I have several PCGS "OGHs" from the early '90s when I sent 5 or 6 coins in to be graded, and none of them rattle. IMO those 2 terms are separate.

1st gen PCGS holders were known as "rattlers" and were small. Their inserts were blue.
2nd gen PCGS holders held the coin more securely and were larger in size (close to the size in use today). Their inserts were a light green.
To me, "rattlers" refer to the first type of holders and "OGH" refers to the 2nd generation old green holders.

What's interesting now about OGH's is that you have to be a bit more careful about buying coins in such holders. The reason is a little subtle. At one time, these holders were highly sought after because PCGS was extremely conservative for many of its grades and the coins were seen as easy upgrade targets and/or great value for the holder. BUT, by now, it's likely a vast majority of these holders have already been well picked through and the remainders are the coins that are not that great for the grade. The hype around OGH for the coin potentially being a better value than the label might indicate has changed to Buyer Beware!

I would agree with Prethen. Most of the ones I see these days are picked over. Nevertheless, I think you can still find a few diamonds in the rough.
