this isn't my coin but I wish it was I think it is fantastic as two pieces because they could have so easily been separated. I was asked to post it and ask what it was but I found this information http://www.coinscan.com/err/misa.html which pretty much answered it. do you agree with the valuation of $350.00 est.? I don't know if it will be going up for sale because it is privately owned but any information or opinions are greatly appreciated.

No. If it was any other date than 1996, then yes, $350 is a fair price. But 1996 off-centre strikes, with gap (and core intact) rarely sell for more than $200 in mint state condition. Yours, with the core detached from ring, would be less...

I hear there were 1996 cores that were easily removed and command quite a premium, and the possibility of a german planchette. Can anyone of these factors (if it can be proven the coin has one of them), increase the value even without the seperate core?

Here is one site with information: http://jolenebelmain.hubpages.com/h...onie-toonie-If you look around you can find some information about the first batch of toonies that were made by the mint. They fixed the defect in the next coins, so there are very few of them. As for them being on a german planchette, I don't know. I do know that they did go to another mint for help in making the toonies since they ran out of planchettes.

I have a toonie from 1996 that the core was removed from. My grandpa gave it to me in 1996 and I still have it kicking around. Both pieces. I should check it out to see if its a German planchette....because the only true way of seeing if its german is to look at the edge of the core I am told........

$200 was stated as a rarely seen price it would get. The posted auction closed at $80 and as stated above the op coin would be less desirable due to it being detached.
