So I am brand new at collecting and I went to an estate sale today and they had all these different year Mercury dimes for 3$ and 4$. It looks like a collector had these because they have grades by the collector I found a 1942 Mercury dime and looking it up it seems to have a good premium on it. But the collector graded it as a G-4. How much would that be worth and Should I get it graded by ngc or pcgs? I also have like 12 other Mercury dimes I bought for 3 and 4$. I wish I was more educated too pick up the right coins! I told the guy I would come back tomorrow. He had a 3 cent nickel for like 38$ that caught my attention but he said he will lower the price by tomorrow.

A 1942 dime G4 doesn't worth to be sent to a TPG.

Go and borrow coin collecting books from your local library, read it before you buy, get as much info from it and here also.

I'm hoping you actually got a 1942/41 Mercury; that would have been a wonderful deal for you. If it's just a common 1942, then it's not such a good deal.
I buy my Mercury dimes at around $1.45 to $2.00 each (except for the 'big two').

Please do research first before buying. You would spend minimum 10 fold what you spent for the coin just to get it graded.

If you're thinking about shelling out $38 for a 3 cent, check out ebay first. Most are <$15 or $100+

Do your research first. It will help you out in the long run. $3-$4 is not a good deal for a regular 1942 dime. You would get a huge steal if it is the overdate.
