1900-O Barber Quarter Grade?

VF-35, possibly EF-40

Thoughts?
First off, the 1909-O Quarter is pricey. Such a coin almost requires a spirited debate as to the grade.
The spread of $600+ between VF and XF is the reason. EVEN a VF-20 without problems is tough to find.
Going just by the photo I think that it is problem-free. It exhibits the typical weakness of a New Orleans
issue.
That being said, I must come in at VF30 or VF-35. I especially like the sharpness of the arrowheads on the reverse.
And of course, "market" grading might push the grade to XF-40. Still, I an conservative.
If I were concentrating on a higher mid-grade quarter collection this example would attract my attention.
If I had this quarter and I wanted to sell it, well, I'd go to ANA for a grade. ( ANA does circulated grades better than NCG and PCGS in my opinion.)

I paid $15 for it, (it was listed as a 1900 plain and I noticed what I hoped was a mint mark on the reverse) is it worth the extra cost to send it to a TPG?

And no, the fee will obliterate your gain.
If you need a microscope to see the imperfections then try not to worry.
Your original pictures are what most people judge a circulated coin to be.
Anything larger than a 5 power is too much magnification for all but error coins.

At any coin show the vast majority of dealers use a Bausch and Lomb 5 power lens.
Unless the need for authentication comes into play.

Had the "hit" been on the obverse on the face the story might be different.
But on the reverse hidden in the feathers and shield there is really nothing to worry about.
