Just read on ebay seller forums on the 18 on .com pay pal is extending the time to file a case to 6 months (180) days from 45 days. Also in sept. buyers will be allowed to cancel a purchase within an hr of winning or buying. This one is to reduced the unpaid item problem. I can live with this one. However, not to know for 6 months, whether or not I can spend the money from a coin sale is troubling. I wonder how many coin buyers will take advantage of this ? Our category should be excluded from this. A buyer should know within 45 days if they need to file a claim. I posted it here, because some who read this forum are sellers and may not read the ebay forum here. I'm interested in both buyers- sellers responses?

Wow that's crazy as a seller, like you said worrying about spending the money for 6 months. And as a buyer no need I know in less time then 45 days unless maybe a presale and still not delievered. Is kinda scary if your the buyer and don't want to cancel the transaction. The Big Question is people who sell let's say bullion and in 4 months it gets milk spots or what about people but a coin thinking it might be hot and ends up a dud.Thats scared ebay getting worse.

Hi taro, it's probably under Paypal announcements. I read about the on both ebay seller forums:.ca/com under community on ebay. I'm not crazy about this rule, they should exclude money or limit it to 60 days. Apparently eBays CEO just took over top job at Paypal. Looks like JD is intent on ruining it also. I regularly read ebay seller forums, to keep informed of how to deal with changes.

Wow, that's quite the extension! As a buyer, after the 45 days are over, I have up to 6 months (or more?) to claim a chargeback, if I pay via credit card (with paypal). So I'm wondering if Paypal is trying to avoid CC issues by extending claims to 6 months? For a seller, wouldn't it be better and/or cheaper to get a Paypal claim rather than a credit card chargeback? Also, will this new policy apply to ebay.com only or also ebay.ca

6 Months is ridiculous. I could live with 2 months, because when ordering from places like China it often takes 2 months even if it doesn't get stuck at customs. I would even be willing to live with 3 months.
The Cancelling policy makes sense, an hour is a very reasonable amount of time.
With the amount of unfair policies against seller that have been put against seller, I'm probably going to have to restrict my sales to CCF and locally. I'm not a high-enough volume seller that I could just eat the cost of a $200 item "lost" because of a "Nor Arrived" case.

Its a PayPal dispute window. So that means everything through PayPal can be disputed. LOL. 6 months. Not even Beat buy gives me 6 months. If this gets implemented, ebay will die.

Thanks Taro! The e commerce article is excellent including the comments. Looks like I need to look at other selling venue and payment options. Maybe time to launch my own site. I can not afford to lose on shipping and coins. It starts worldwide nov.18. It's been in UK since June.

"So you sell a coin get the money in 21 days pull it out spend it guy wants to return it 150 days in how is paypal gonna get your money from you?" ANS: In the user agreements that all ebay and Paypal users agreed to, the "fine print" is what can come back to haunt you. The first thing they do will be to email you to let you know you have a charge back pending. If there is money in your PP account they will slap a hold on the amount being charged back. If there is no money in the account they will ask you to fund the chargeback by adding money to the account through your bank account or with your credit card. If you refuse to do that, they will eventually refund the Buyer out of their own pocket and then pursue you through the collections process. If it goes to collections, the agency will send you collection letters, call you and put bad things in your credit report. Once it's on your credit report it will lower your credit score. It will stay on your report for 7 years. Can they sue you and obtain a judgement Yes. Will they? All depends. Believe me, ebay and PayPal have covered the bases and will either get the money out of you or make your credit life miserable. Their lawyers are pretty good at writing these terms of service agreements so they have all the rights and you have diddly squat.

I wonder why PayPal and ebay want to change their current policies. I thought the idea was to ensure the transaction goes through smoothly and not to have people put PayPal disputes. As a result, ebay and PayPal don't get paid.
