Here is my most recent purchase, 1863 Fractional Currency. This item is particullary fascinating and brings back memories because my father had some similar to this when I was a boy, but we (brother and I) just "looked them to pieces..." as time went by. Chuckle, currently my little brother has what's left on them...

The ebay sale was absolutely flawless and the seller is top-notch,

Take Care
Ben

I have one just like it, well except that it served a long hard life and looks like the Civil War got the better of it:

The nice thing about these fractional notes is that you really do get a lot of bang for your numismatic buck as really you can get very nice notes for a nominal sum. It is as though they are really overlooked by collectors, that go more for dollar bills etc.

Sweet note, Bonedigger! I agree with Scottishmoney, these are greatly undervalued as Civil War historical artifacts!

That one looks almost like the ones my little brother has, virtually the same condition. We were always asking to look at the old paper money my dad had saved as a boy. Little by little it just started wearing away with us handling it not in the most careful manner...

The fractional notes from this era are actually a lot scarcer than the coinage from this era, especially given their fragile nature, and that they actually saw some limited circulation up into the 1890's, my Grandfather had one that he showed me once that he saved from change ca. 1898 or so.

It is possible to get some of the more common notes in crisp uncirculated for under $75 if you look hard enough. They are fascinating, being the smallest currency the USA ever issued, and in fact, they were the first Federally issued paper money that most people saw during that time.
