I've never managed to buy a coin from a pawn shop at a reasonable price.

I'm not interested in modern gold and many pawn shops don't lend except on gold.

The few others that do, don't know how to grade so when they're selling just take the highest price shown in the catalogue (ie Unc or BU).

That might be OK except the coins on offer generally are lesser grades.

Some pawn shops also offer fake coins as if they were genuine - I've no idea whether they know they're fakes or not.

he just happened to find them? I doubt that. I would think it was a pawn that came in when silver was realitivly high and now he is trying to recoup some value by talking you into buying them as collector pieces.

Well if he wants those prices he's gonna have a hard time finding the right sucker(s) to purchase them. Don't be shocked when he gives you a call back and asks you again if you are still interested. Stick to your guns cause if he does lower the price then he wants to sell and will be willing to bargain. If you feel safe with him wave the cash in his face that does the trick sometimes.

Sorry for late response guys, but
Pertinax, I checked all the coins to make sure they were legit and not fakes, the two I got (will upload) were legit.

Tryna, by found he meant like he was cleaning out his shop and forgot he had them from someone pawning them who knows when and yeah he was thinking that I was trying to buy them as a collector (which I would have if they were in better condition/were rare)

Badtothebone,
Yeah I'm sticking to my guns and hopes he calls me back whenever he finds out that Franklins are not worth 20 a pop and that his 1921 Morgans aren't worth 50 a pop. He saw my wad of cash when I paid for the two dollars I got, I'm hoping that is something he will keep in mind (we met at a local starbucks so I felt pretty safe)
