I'm having a hard time committing to AU or MS for this one. The obverse says one thing, the reverse another. Opinions?

I don't see anything but a lot of bag clatter (love the nose )and I see nothing that screams out anything other than uncirculated, or any signs of circulation at all. It probably just took a long, long ride via bumpy train and stagecoach, that's all.....

I'll go with MS.

Only thing I see that could be considered wear would be just above the ear in the hair. Is it just me?

Oh, and as Bottleguy pointed out, those "breathe right" strips on her nose are priceless....guess she snores....

Man, there is nothing AU about that coin. Looks to be a lock MS-62 to me. A surefire beauty

I agree and even since I am no longer needed for my 1878 expertise to help with VAM #'s (seems you are becoming a fast expert yourself) This coin screams MS to me and wouldn't be surprised to see it in a MS-63 holder at anytime in the future

Slight wear around the ear on obv...some unsightly marks on nose..AU 58 at best
PS always give the obverse more weight on final grading (per ANA PCGS and NGC)
Nice 78 with rev of 78!

it is actually as Dave as said a 7/0 TF which is a varient of a 7/8 TF just can't see the other feathers underneath but the long arrow shaft shows that it has the 7/8 reverse and also it is already been attributed as a VAM-30 by all the other diagnostics of this specific VAM which confirms it is a 7/8 TF with NO feathers showing underneath the top 7. This is a major mistake TPG's make which makes cherrypicking 1878 Morgans fun and easy because they refer these as 1878 reverse of 1878 and in fact its can be a highly sought after 7/0 variety
