I'm told that this coin is quite rare so I thought I would share. Apologies in advance as the picture quality isn't the greatest.

I agree, it may be a scarce coin in general. But in this condition and in relation to other Newfie coins which have mintages of 2,000 (1946-C) and the almighty 1873-H this is a fairly common coin. Maybe this would be rare if it was EF but otherwise not really. Sorry but still a nice coin

Yeah, the mintage is quite low, but given the condition, a large fraction of the coins of that time is probably at the grade.

About one a month usually sell on ebay. At that rate it's not rare. Mintage figures and rarity do not always go hand in hand. That's why there is a topic here recently about survival rates. Survival rate and rarity do go hand in hand.

Survival rate and rarity do go hand in hand. DBM is right. Canadian Mintages tend to be pretty low even when compared to US coins. Even the highest classic coin mintages for the Canadian coins do not exceed 1-3 Million. While US coins generally tend to go into the tens of millions. It's really about supply and demand. Demand for Newfie coins is even lower than that for Canadian coins so even while some of them are pretty scarce their prices don't compare. It's unfortunate though because there isn't enough backing or initiative to compile proper survival rates for Canadian Coins.

Now I feel kind of foolish! Lol... Maybe I should have asked the question "Is this a rare coin?"

The only thing rarer than some NFLD coins, are NFLD coin collectors...
