From what we've seen in the Canadian grading section lately, there's a greater need for a sticker service.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning... -from PCGS website

Does WINGS verify the grades or something?

I love it ! First CAC for USA coins and now WINGS for all the rest of the world! The graders grading the graders. Question to all what makes the sticker guys more competent than the original graders at NGC PCGS ICG ANACS ICCS or CCCS? The real answer is probably ..........there is no answer!! Grading is NOT an exact science and never will. The best way to deal with the grading issue is learn how to grade yourself and buy the coin not the holder.

It would be interesting to see photos from a multiple submission, showing coins that got stickered vs those that didn't. We can start doing "You vs WINGS/CAC - sticker or no sticker?" threads.

@ Pacific I agree 100% ..As far as I'm concerned its just another money grab .... The ( TPG's ) should only Autenticate coins and perhaps comments such as cleaned or other, just not grades....thats my opinion

Indeed a money grab! What has happened is that the big TPG in the States are running out of coins to grade. After all, the supply is finite. Thus the new ways to extract cash from submitters. When INSAB and ANACS were just authenticating coins and not grading, the Coin World was indeed a simpler place. Today depending on the service, the day of the week and WHO is doing the submitting a coin can end up with 7 different grades. Try it sometime ! Myself ,I could care less if the coin is holdered stickered , gift wrapped , or raw. If I do not like it or think I can resell it for a profit or upgrade what is in my own collection, it stays where it is . The next TPG scam will be a new group grading the graders who are grading the graders.!! !!

Seriously, I think these sticker companies might actually serve a purpose. While I have little experience with grading, even I have noticed the inter- and intra-TPG inconsistencies. Also, while suggestions like "learn to grade yourself" are great, I find it really hard to teach myself grading, and have a feeling that you need to learn it first hand (meaning from a teacher), unless of course you have access to loads of graded coins with grades all over the spectrum and are willing to study them in details. Unfortunately, these days it has become really hard to find such an expert/teacher who is OK with a part-time sidekick hanging around :D; seriously, who has the time for that anymore?
This forces amateur collectors like me to stick to (inconsistently) graded coins, which often turn out to be costly mistakes due to over-grading. Thus I think another level of consistency check, specially for expensive coins, might actually be a good thing.

@os I can appreciate your concerns. There are things you can do to improve your own abilities. There are wonderful tools available on the internet, books are available on US and Canadian coins and there are still some wonderful honest people in the business who can guide you. If you are really serious about grading and numismatics , join the ANA and attend a summer seminar. I have been an active numismatist at the dealer level for over 42 years now and still learn every day! Good Luck to you!

Hi chequer
The answer is probably no. We just started reviewing ICCS coins at the FUN show last month and have not stickered too many. As a way to introduce ourselves in Canada we are preparing to run ads in the Canadian Coin News soon. We intend to offer free submissions to those readers as an introduction so that there is zero risk or cost in it for them except S&H. We haven't decided on a number yet. However, when we kicked off last year at the FUN show we offered 20 free submissions. I will be happy to extend that same offer to you and other readers of this thread for now.
I will be happy to answer any question or address any concern as I am the Co-President and operational officer of WINGS. We take our business very seriously. You can reach me at Larry@WINGSCOINS.com, 855-339-4647 or via this thread.
Doubleeagle59, that is too funny!
Thank again for this thread. It is a great way for me to learn from you and on how to improve our company.

I suspect since ICCS rarely grades anything made of bronze of copper above MS-63, unless it is red, you could see a whole pile of lustrous brown Canadian and NFLD large and small cents that would easily get this sticker. Hugh Powell (Newcan Coins) already does this, with a blue and red sharpie pen. He puts a 'plus' right on the flip, or writes a "Newcan grade" for red-brown and lustrous brown coins, if he thinks the coin is a better example of the ICCS grade. This would be a perfect example of a coin only getting a MS-63 grade from ICCS... (yet it achieved a lofty MS-66 brown from PCGS). http://images.pcgs.com/CoinFacts/28..._800x600.jpg
