A lovely coin, but overpriced by $1000 IMO. For that money I'm looking for 65FH's and not a technically-superior 66 with an indifferent strike. Would I own it? You betcha.

Well, it lists at 6000.00 on CoinWorld. So at 5100.00, I do not think it is over priced at all. Is it a steal? Nope. But if I had 5 grand to spend, I would not be unhappy buying that coin. No, its not a full head, but the strike is pretty good aside from that IMO and the toning is awesome.

Every price guide I've seen has it at $6000+

Which is why you hear me putting down "price guides" every chance I get. My figure of "$1000 over" is based on real-world sales records of MS66 non-FB 1923-S's.

I wasn't going to buy it, so not worth arguing true value. I just thought it was a great looking and rare coin.

Quote:Beautiful coin! Look what else the seller has... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1793-Chain-...em5d4fe368b0 Yeah, I saw that! Pretty cool.. This shop is actually a few blocks down from my work and have been around forever. They do stock some pretty cool coins from time to time. I am a little intimidated by their shop, though. One thing that is cool is often they have the old Mormon currency (being Utah) and it is amazing how rare and valuable that is.

To Dave's point, and if you do not have access to PCGS and /or do not feel like hunting auction records, you do not see the last handful of these to hit in block, in PCGS MS66 04/13 HA $4,700 05/12 HA $4,888 02/12 SB $5,292 06/10 BM $4,774 11/08 BM $4,600 If the needle has not moved in the past 5 years, what justifies a price where you'd lose $500 the next day at auction? I would split the difference in the debate and say its priced $500 too much.

Beautiful coin!! Am also getting away from price guides as buying guides. Am looking at recent auction results for accurate buying guidance. Unless it's a high demand coin (which SLQs might be,) the price guides are way off.
