I figured as much for the grading aspect. Well sure I will change my ad to say AT, I do use heat and light. I've sold well over 100 sets and by the looks of feedback left, everyone enjoys their purchases. And isn't that the entire point of having a hobby, enjoyment?! And regarding the over pricing of these items at 5.00? I pay fees, free shipping and don't forget the coins and supplies involved. Using them on my listings has increased views and sales for other items and that was solely the original plan. Thanks for your replies and advice.

Looks to me like the color change was due to excessive heat.

While AT, these certainly have a real nice look to them, definitely very cool as a curio piece...

I agree they do look cool, and everyone these days is looking for something unique. I started off selling these as a donation piece for the pink ones. Had the listing up for 25% going to a cancer research company in N.Y.. I sold a few and some money went to a good cause, the minimum donation ebay sets adjusted the price and fewer were sold. That's why I placed them in sets of four. My special wrap rolls/cards with coin inside will fair better once my order from the printing shop arrives. And then I can offer up % to hopefully a Canadian charity, ebay hasn't set up donations for any others than the U.S. I've gone through my listings and all items marked as "naturally toned" have been changed. Thanks.

Quote: I've gone through my listings and all items marked as "naturally toned" have been changed. The right move. Too bad some ebay sellers are so unethical. So to clarify, did you replace the words "naturally toned" to "artificially toned" or did you just remove "naturally toned"?

I just put toned(AT), any serious collector would clearly know before hand. Most novice collectors from time to time ask questions, though most don't care and just like the way they look. I still have multiple solo ads up in the auction phase today, I'll have to let them run their course. All these solo ones need to be relisted in groups of 4 so they're coming down anyways. Working away slowly on these solo ones, I wish you could just delete auction style listings in one big swoop. Everyone has to be taken down individually.

I would think they should be removed from ebay ENTIRELY as you freely admit you are selling ALTERED coins. In my book as a long time dealer and an ANA member just about the same as selling counterfeits. This my personal opinion for what it is worth. Jack

Quote:I would think they should be removed from ebay ENTIRELY as you freely admit you are selling ALTERED coins while I'm not a fan of these (personal tastes) there is obviously an artsie market for them. if you went this far you would have to remove (amongst other things) every piece of coin jewelry to. OP: by calling them "toned (AT)" and expecting people to either know what that means or ask questions, will not gather much support here... just be honest and call them what they are, otherwise it gives the impression that you are still trying to fool people.

That's just a temporary fix. We all know there are 1000's of coins on ebay that perhaps need to be changed or whatever. Coins cut into jigsaw puzzles, cufflinks, necklaces, coloured coins the list goes on. It's a buying platform and a buyers market. So let the buyers decide I say.

Coin jewellery is a totally different deal. Altered coins are just that........ Made to deceive ,until op was called to task here on the ccf. He was saying these were original!

They are original, unique, special, etc. And clearly highly sought after, collectors are looking for new coins. I suppose cleaning coins in any manner is taboo as well, they're not "original" either. Who hasn't got a great deal on a 1926 far 6 or 1921 Dime(lol)? That had a touch of black residue and took it off. Oops not original.

Anywho, this thread has gotten way off topic since it's in the grading section. It's taking up real estate and it's mutliple views are taking away from collectors reading up on actual grading issues. I'm out on this one. Lol, that's awesome the ball is on fire. Hot topic!!
