Hey all,
Im new here to the forums and would like to share my recent purchase. Its an 1886-O Morgan dollar. I'm debating on getting it crossed over to ANACS to get recertified. It was ICG graded an AU55 but personally I think it looks better but just a weak strike. The surfaces seem so clean and full of luster that its hard to believe its been circulated at all. What do you all think? Ill try to get some better pictures up soon. :)

Looks like ICG got the grade right actually.
Rest in Peace

86-O is a money coin in MS condition and the top 3 grading companies will not slide one through. I'll wait to see your better pictures before I offer my grade opinion.

Added a few more pictures that you should be able to zoom. The grade could very well be right. I'm just intrigued by the state of the surfaces compared to the detail.

I've seen MS60 and 61 coins that look the same. The fields look pretty good for AU55. nlp

Since no one has said so yet, welcome.

The notorious weak strikes of the New Orleans Mint notwithstanding, I think you'll be jousting with a windmill trying to squeeze a better grade out of it. However, not everyone accepts ICG as readily as NGC or PCGS, so reslabbing it might yet be worthwhile even if the rolling of the dice gradewise comes up snake eyes.

I think there is wear on the cheek. You may get it to grade AU-58 but no higher. Still, a pretty nice coin!

I'm with Noel on this one, there are 60 and 61's that look every bit as good as the reverse of yours. I can't read the obverse as the photo is still a bit fuzzy. I think it would be worth a shot to cross it over to ANACS, but the best bang for your buck would be PCGS or NGC if you are thinking of selling. Even an AU58 would be a win. Oh, and welcome to CCF.
