I'll assume that these are people who search and mark. But some showed more than others. I bought two boxes $500 each, because the bank would not get me just one. They didn't want a box of Half Dollars sitting in the vault.

Looked through, it was fun. I pulled some nice looking AU coins, maybe lower, but nice and shiny. Not sure if I want to start collecting them or just recycle for someone who wants them.

Here's the question(s): What are these marks? People like the reddish 9 are marking the coins, but looking at the edges, the Silver coins are obvious.

Question two, lower left coin, worn on the edge (not a slot machine hammered edge) Lettering missing the tops, near edge, but the center is not worn. Is this a coin counter or coin rolling machine defect?

Yeah, lots of people mark them to see how often they get the same coins back. And the picture won't enlarge for me, so can't really say on the second question.

Or do I need to do a close-up?

a close-up would be good, but it looks like the result of a partially Grease Filled Die, which doesn't add value.

I recall seeing just lines (black or red, rarely blue) on halves, but not numbers except for a counterstamped "4" on the obverse of one that I still have.

I'm guessing all the numbers are from the same guy. He's using it to determine how long it took to circulate back to him. He probably keeps track...for instance, 2 might = 08/10/2014 and 9 = 08/20/2014 dump date. I did something similar, except my code was easy.

New to this area, I collect Jefferson nickels - from rolls of course. :-)

Better size scan. The wear is in a circular pattern, around the edge. But the hair and center seems to be almost unaffected? Is this what wear from a coin rolling machine looks like? So does that mean it got stuck in the machine or something?

Is there an error guide to Kennedy halves or Cherry pickers list? Helpful link would be something so I can start learning more. I found nine nice coins, nothing rare, but nice condition, so I figured why not get a book and start collecting. Winter is coming to Wisconsin...

Started search "Kennedy" and reading here this was posted before. Thanks
