I have an 07 and 08 silver american eagles and was wondering how to tell if it has a satin (SP) finish on it. Somewhere I heard that if it has the "W" mintmark on the back, then it has a satin finish, but I wasn't completely sure about that.

Thanks,

Mark

This is where grading sites, NGC, PCGS ...etc help make things confusing.
I have slabs for these coins labeled .. Satin .. UNC .. MS ... SP.

Just think .. no mint mark are bullion coins.
If the silver eagles are sold through the mint .. they will have a mint mark.
The mint mark is on the reverse .. as your looking at the coin.. it will be
near the bottom left of the eagle.

ASE uncirculated coins (non proof) are called burnished when sold by the mint.
Yes they can have what looks like a satin finish.

Bullion coins are not sold to individuals through the mint store or online.
They are sold to large bullion dealers only.

Thanks GR58, both of mine are burnished. I also checked my 2008 for the "reverse of the 2007", sadly no luck.
