Hi again,

I posted on P 11 of Vicky coins. A member 47P7 said to ask SSuperdave or anyone who knows, for help on pics of the smaller coins that I would like to show.

I have a standard Lumix camera. I can get larger coins, but the small 5 cent silver coins which are toned almost dark blue/black, also worn older copper, wont show only blurry and I have tried several settings etc. Larger coins are ok
I probably need a better camera Gary

Gary check to see if your cam has a macro setting. It looks like a flower.. If so try keeping it about 8 inches away and use the zoom in 3 time or 2 depending.. If you use a back drop light keep it above the coins around 6 inches higher and just adjust until you get good pics...

SsuperDdave is a whiz on cameras... you can perhaps ask him a specific question in the photography thread.

I typically use a cannon or my ipad mini to take shots of my coins... so my working knowledge on photography is VERY limited... but this is what I have learned through experience..

You need to have the camera at an optimal distance on a stand of some sort that keeps the camera still. If you're able to adjust the distance of the camera stand in some way it's even better. My point and shoot camera I can't change lenses but I find that I still get some really good shots using the macro setting and just working the distance from the object until I have optimal focus.

The next major thing is lighting... I created my own light boxes with some lights wire and paper to diffuse the light... ample light but well diffused I have found to give some nice results.

Best I can do to help... good luck

A piece of tissue paper domed over the object Will diffuse the light as well.

Thanks Guys,

Artdio,
I found the micro flower, now to try and make it work. Now to perfect the process. Since I went to school when there were no computers, digital cameras, black & white TV`s. My Kids grand kids are better at this. So I will probably ask dumb ?`s again.

I could tear apart a classic car and rebuild it easier than work on a PC or tech product.
I have had my 64 Buick Wildcat Convert all torn apart before painting it

Thanks for teaching an old dog some new tricks.
This Forum is very full of good folks and info, keep it up

Gary
