Hey group, I know these are not coins but since we all love collecting and history maybe someone can help me with these.

I bought a box of stuff at a Maine yard sale for a buck and since I am not American, and colour blind and don't even know what you call these things can a military buff shine in and I.d. these please?

Thanks in advance

Hey Kansas, are these what they call service ribbons? So these attached the medal to your jacket or were these worn instead off medals?

Obviously you wouldn't ware these in combat, where they just used on a dress jacket?

Also are these bars incomplete without the actual medal and cloth?

In Australia, the situation is similar to, but slightly different from U.S.A.
We wear our service ribbons on "everyday" uniforms.
On combat uniforms - no ribbons.
On "big days", we wear the full medals.
And, yes, the medals are suspended from the ribbons - usually about 50mm in length.
Again, in Australia, we also have "miniatures" - for wear on mess-dress.
On the infrequent occasions when I wear my medals, I let my sons wear my miniatures - on the right breast, of course.

In my limited experience, American service personnel wear their ribbons in similar circumstances to Australians, but they wear their medals less often than us.
