Would this be considered a variety? According to Charlton,on 52&53 dollars, a short waterline on the rear of the canoe is considered a separate variety but does not mention anything about a 35. It does mention a SWL on the front as a variety
Rev.-005 which this coin has also. Could I say this coin has two varieties?

Bringing back an old thread,

1935 Dollar Rear SWL

I saw that another one of these was listed in the January CNC auction. Coinsandcanada shows a MS 65 sold at $3600.

Went looking through mine, found one as well.

Anyone else have one out there? This makes a population of at least 3.

Is the SWL designation only for the bow of the canoe? The stern on this coin lacks lines as well.

Seems like a lot more research and/or documentation can be done on all of the silver dollars. The 1946 also has SWL designated as a variety, but there are in fact two types - front of canoe only, and both front and back. I have not seen one with just the back SWL.

Front only:

1946 as well, thanks for the knowledge. The '35 posted with front and back SWLs must be the JOP? That is an incredible price for a SWL.

There are severall years of front SWL, but rear SWL seems to be less common. A ms63 rear swl just sold for $420 at the cnc auction.

I'll have to check my 46's.

1935 SWL seems not very common. I looked through the first 100 of these on Heritage and only found 3 SWL at the front and none at the back. None that I could find were designated as SWL. @purelywasted do you have a link to the CNC auction one?

Here is the ms 63 (1097).

The ms 64 (previous coin) sold at auction but now shows as unsold.

Lot 1096 picture is easier to see the missing water lines at the rear and can definitely see the front water lines. Lot 1097 could have had better photos to enhance the claim of SWL, very tough to make out.

Scanned all the 1935 Dollars Toronto Coin Shop has or sold and only found 1 SWL rear.
