What-Would-You-Pay-For-This?

What would you pay for this? I'm fairly new to this and just wondering what you guys think would be a fair price for this coin.

It's way outside my price range so this is basically a guess, but I'd be really surprised to see it go for less than 2k

I agree Timbers! It's pretty incredible, If I bought this it would be my first expensive purchase, and would take at least 2 months of extreme penny pinching to buy, but I'm considering it, just want to make sure I'm informed first though.

It's a very pretty coin, well struck and well centered. However IMO it has been artificially toned. I've found a number of these coins listed on Acsearch RIC 110 in similar condition ranging from going unsold to $90 all the way up to $1200. I would say based on condition excluding the questionable toning this coin would sell for between $250-$300.

Thanks for the info echizento. I definitely will not purchase it now, that was the information I expected, was just hoping for the best I suppose. It's just as well, it's out of my price range, I might as well stick to much cheaper coins.

It's a nice coin but it has definitely been artificially toned if that is a concern for you. You can achieve similar rainbow colors by storing your coins in certain old coin albums or by various less "natural" means.

I'm not particularly put off by artificial toning on ancient coins. After all, virtually all ancient coins have been cleaned and often repatinated, some in more natural ways than others. This coin has just been a bit more exuberantly encouraged to take on iridescent colors.

I like the coin. If I was going to buy something like that, I would want to pay around the £60 mark and I would clean that rainbow off it then leave it in my cabinet to colour up naturally over the years.

I never would try it myself but I have read that this toning can be reproduced on a bright coin by storing it in proximity to a rag soaked with garage oil.
