Hello again!

I've come across this coin at an auction! I'm expanding my collection of coins minted in the lands of modern day Lebanon and I don't have any coins of that era!
What do you guys think? Is it authentic? I have no clue in determining the authenticity of coins from this period so any help would be appreciated! I really want to get this coin! cheers

Had a quick check and the inscription should read:

BOEMUNDVS:COMES+

CIVITAS:TRIPOLI+

So yes, it is a crusader coin but can't tell you which of the several Bohemunds this coin would be attributed to.

I think it might be either a 1/2 Gros or 1 Gros from Tripoli of Bohemond VI. The 1/2 Gros type2 is 2.12 grams and is Metcalf 495 and the Gro type 5 is 3.76 grams and is Metcalf 490.

The best current book on the crusader coinage I am aware of is Alex Malloy's "Coins of the Crusader States", which might be an essential purchase if you want to expand your collection/knowledge of the coinage of that area 'PhoenicianX'.

Thank you Medieval and Echizento! the auction does state its a Bohemund VI minted in Tripoli,
I was hoping if someone could tell me if it's an authentic silver coin of that era

Yes your coin does appear to be genuine. He is another reference you might find interesting. I believe your coin type is listed there.http://www.baldwin.co.uk/media/cms/...llection.pdf

hmmm I'm slightly concerned now..
According to the auction site, the coin is referenced as CCS22 and weighs 2.13g
In the link you posted, it weighs around 4..
I'm hesitating to bid now which is not a good sign xD

According to the other link (Baldwin), it is estimated to be worth 150-200 pounds for its condition.
The starting bid on the coin I posted is 66 pounds? Is it worth it?

At that weight it appears to be the 1/2 Gros. The heavier one is the 1 Gros.

I actually just won one of these through the CNG auction. Mine's holed, however... a sharp coin methinks. Simplistic, yet memorable. I'm thinking about adding the 8-sided star to my collection of tattoos regarding my favorite coin designs...
