I gather these aren't rare, or even particularly scarce for that matter, but I thought it was kind of neat. Pretty small in size (16.4 mm in diameter). I think its composition is zinc.

You can expect to find them in dealers junk boxes for .25. Nice examples are often traded for .50 cents between serious transit collectors. A fair ebay or flea market seem to be $5 in a 2x2.

That one is a odd color, it should look like it made out of a nickel/copper alloy. Looks like environmental damage. I have like 20 different ones I picked up from the 20's-40's so far including a copy of yours. I have hundreds of indianapolis ones I hoard in a glass display case/ frame. I do a lot of transit planning for my job so I love these tokens.

If you want to read more about them go to this website http://www.exonumist.com. It the best site for transit tokens. There are thousands of different ones from cities around the US.

I don't know why it took on such a bluish hue in these photos (taken with natural light) - in hand, it's just gray.

It might be zinc if I remember correctly,I would have to pull down my token catalog to check. but I've had a few of these.. Zinc tokens oxidize that way, grey, blue or ashy black.. Different transit tokens were made from different metals. steel, white metal, copper, aluminum, brass. Many were made from one base metal then coated in another. Like brass plated steel for example. Hawaii transit tokens are highly collectible, and a couple of them are valuable. That one is the most common and worth less than a dollar, but it's still a cool and interesting piece of history.

It is zinc. I have a one half fare for school children 23mm in diameter in white metal. I suppose this token for to and from school was made a little bigger so they would not be as likely to be lost by the kids.

This full fare token and my half fare token pictured below were made in zinc and white metal.
