Hey there. I am a canadian error collector so I don't have any experience with U.K. coins. It is a very nice brockage with great detail and fairly well centered.

A friend is in possession of the pictured coin and so I am trying to identify as closely as possible the year of the coin and its rarity.

I would also like a value on this coin so I can make him a fair offer. Are brockage errors like this common in 19th century coins?

All comments are welcome.
thanks in advance!
Rob

As 'peter1234' said, it is clearly Indian,
The obverse design with the legend 'Victoria Queen' was used for British colonial issues in India from 1862-1876 after which it became 'Victoria Empress'.
To work out the denomination you will have to measure size and weight of the coin. Plus what material is it, looks like silver but I have seen copper coins look that way under some light.

Great! That's why I couldn't find a matching obverse in UK coins! I don't have the dimentions but it is silver and it weighs 11.65 gr which is why we thought it could be a florin. I think a florin is 11.33 gr from that era. With the weight of 11.65 gr , can anyone identify the denomination for us please?

That would be a rupee.

The British Indian Rupee: weight 11.66000g, .917 silver = .3438 oz ASW.
And the Rupee with your obverse was only minted for 3 years, namely 1874-1876, there are mint and other varieties but they all rely on the reverse.
