Ok-and just how are you sure of that without having the coin in hand?

Well considering there is no way a proof planchet would be at the Philadelphia mint, I'd say no. Just a good strike from a brand new die.

If it is gold-plated, the copper core will not be visible on the edge.

Yea-I thought about that proof planchet after I wrote that-wouldn't be at Philly mint...and I gotta take couple pics next to my other sacs-it's not as yellow as it seems in these pics,I can see why it's thought gold after I looked at these pics-the way the light hit it looks super yellow but really does not look gold plated in hand but who knows

Only way I think like that is because of the weakness in the fields, it might just be the pictures.

Researching I found out there were proofs struck at the Philadelphia mint but these were 22kt gold and took a ride into outer space then displayed and now at Fort Knox I think-some had the W mintmark and some had none or so the pcgs article states...wonder what they'd be worth if collectors could get a hold of em lol? Most planchet a were melted down but I think the # is 12 that they struck and kept-they were struck with the Cheerios reverse

Yes, but none of these, I think, have made it into the wild.

35 W Sac's were struck, all but 12 were melted. Those 12 were sent to space, and are now held at Fort Knox. None have gotten out...at all. All others were melted...all of them.

And no I don't think and never did think I had a gold piece in my hand-not even close but I do think it's crazy how many different things went on with this coin in its first year, pretty wild

Well, no. We were just having a small side- discussion and said that none have made it into the wild. But from your pictures, it seems that it's gold plated to me, but if you could take some more pictures to disprove this to me, I would appreciate it.
