I just received this nice 1920 Buffalo. The dark spot below the PLURIBUS on the reverse is a reflection and not a mark.

Thanks for your opinions.

Au-55 just a few rubs away from MS.

This appears to be a weakly struck coin and may be MS. This ones tough to grade by its pic. Maybe someone more versed in the series ail chime in for you

Thanks for the responses so far as I'm working to get better at grading.

Is the wear people are seeing the spot on the Indian's cheek?

In hand, that appears to be toning to me and not wear.

Does that make a difference in the grading?

I appreciate the insights.

I think others are confusing the weak strike on this piece with wear. Weak strikes are the bane of Buffalo nickel enthusiasts, but they are what they are. You would be surprised how many MS graded buffs have awful strikes.

Toning does not effect the grade; a grade is merely about how much detail a coin has. Graders usually don't take into consideration strike or eye-appeal.

That said, I see this as a solid MS grade, maybe MS-63 or so.

AU-58, I'm seeing lots of dullness on the high points. A good sign of light circulation.

I sent the 1920 Buffalo to NGC and it came back today graded MS-62. I'm pleased with that.

I am still learning the fine art of grading Buffalo nickels.
