Hi I'm new to roll hunting, I so far have only gotten a few roles of nickels here and there, on my first roll I actually got an 1938 which was cool. Anyway I wanted to get into bigger amounts and I'm wondering what are the actual amounts they have for these boxes? I know there is a 500$ half option but thats it. Additionally how should I go about returning the unwanted coins? So should I ask for rolls to reroll all the coins I don't want and hand them back or should I just find a bank that has one of those coin machines and dump them all in there? Thx.

Pennies - $25.00 Nickels- $100.00 Dimes - $250.00 Quarters/Halves - $500.00
You can re roll them, that's what I do but it is time consuming. I would try to look around and find a bank that has a free coin counter.

I re-roll mine, I keep begging my Chase branch to get a change counter, but by me TD bank has a free coin machine if you have an account, I am seriously thinking about opening an account there just for the coin machine.

My bank won't take them rolled. So find out first how your dump site wants them...could save you some time.

I re-roll mine, cents.About one box per month. Don't dump at the same bank you buy from. Most banks only give you around 20 wrappers at a time so I buy mine by the box full from e-Bay. John1

My bank will not take coins unless they are rolled. Also some banks let me order small dollar coin boxes which come in boxes of $1,000.

I carefully unwrap one end (I use a small pocket knife) and push out the coins and reuse the same wrapper, works great, and this way I don't have to buy wrappers.

I could never understand the need to waste the wrapper by cutting them open. again, just unwrap one end, and as you go through the roll, just put the garbage coins back in the empty roll. this takes just as much time as not rolling.
But you do need to find out about your bank, if they do/don't accept rolled coin.
Remember you need to make this exchange as easy for the teller as possible, I roll my coins, and group the rolls in units of 10's so that it is easiest for the teller to count.

Find a bank or CU that will take your loose coin, say $500 bag of halves, and give you cash back on the spot. That's what I've done in the past.

How accurate are these coin machines? When you dump a whole box worth in there is it always exact?

Quote: How accurate are these coin machines? When you dump a whole box worth in there is it always exact? Sometimes they are spot on. Not always. Halves a re one thing, but sometimes the nice machine my CU has (a LaRue) will count dimes as cents and I will get stiffed on dimes. That's why if possible, I hoist $500 worth over the counter and get my cash thay way..

If you can't find a local bank with a counting machine, you can re-roll the coins you find in BWR rolls in the same rolls they came in, if you carefully take them out carefully but this is kind of a hastle. I find it easier to re-roll them in paper rolls I get from the banks for free. Most banks in our area will give you free paper rolls, if you ask for them.
As a courtesy to the bank, I try to not return rolls to the same bank I get them from. Wells Fargo and BB&T have lots of branches in our area and I try to use as many of them as possible when I am in different areas of town or nearby towns. I try to limit having to drive too much, making stops at bank on the way to and from work, when doing personal business or shopping. This helps keep the cost of doing the coin rolling hobby down.
I've found that being friendly and courteous to bank tellers tends to make most of them willing to work with you. Every once in a while you'll get a 'cranky' teller with an attitude, lazy or ego problem. Good luck and keep on rolling!

I buy em by the box when I have some time to look through them. I also have a bank that has a coin counter and I make sure I deposit the coins in an account I have there and keep it for when I purchase coins in the future. I mainly look for error coins and silver. Its the thrill of the hunt for me.
