This is a trait that is fairly common on 1966 five cent nickels. Interesting to see on your 1963 . Most likely a result of unpolished dies as compared to fully polished as usually found. Cheers !!

Great optical illusion!! Spinning denticles!!

Put your cursor to the right of the bottom picture then scroll the page up and down slowly using your mouse while keeping your eyes on the denticles.

Now I know where the saying "Doesn't have two nickels to rub together" comes from that illusion is cool !

The dull finish is by far my fave, will be interesting to find other years and it looks like 1966 will be a good place to start looking.
