A star note is a replacement note. After a note is printed, if it has flaws it will be destroyed and replaced with a star note. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replacement_banknote : "A star note is also a bank note that has an asterisk (*), or star, after the serial number. Many early issues carried the star in front of the serial number. These have been used by various countries around the world including Australia and the United States. In the US, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing inspects currency for printing errors prior to releasing notes into general circulation. When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are more scarce than notes with standard serial numbers and as such are widely collected by numismatists. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes." Found 5 bucks on the ground yet AGAIN at lunch today, although it was under a chair at one of the lunch tables occupied by a bunch of girls on their phones. Just to be safe, I actually untied one of my shoes, bent down to tie it, grabbed the bill, and RAN. Believe it or not, when I came back into the cafeteria, no one seemed to notice! I'd imagine either no one at the table dropped it or they were just too busy texting each other to notice.
Update: At work tonight, I found a 1919 penny and a 1999 $5 in really good condition, so needless to say, I traded out both of them!

Star notes are an interesting subject. ANY Swedish star note is automatically worth above face, since there are next to none around. I've seen a pretty badly circulated note selling for almost six times face value!
After a quick trip to Latvia I got a 5c, 10c, 20c and €2 coin with the new Lithuanian design (dated 2015). Along with that I got a Latvian BU 2c and €1 coin, both dated 2014.

I found a nickel roll that appeared to have been searched by 2 CRHers. It had "Pre 1970" written on it and it was a rewrapped MWR, but then someone crossed that out and wrote "1964-D." I opened it, and sure enough, it was a solid nickel roll ...of 1964-Ds.  |

My wife was gonna be running errands on Saturday. I asked her to go to the bank and get $10.00 in cent rolls for me. I hadn't done any coin roll hunting in forever. She was 4 hours later than expected in getting home. My anticipation was growing ! --- She gets home I meet her in the driveway to "help carry" groceries. ..lol...she knew what I wanted. As soon as I had them in hand I saw that EVERY roll was 2016 d...  ...no Wheatie search happenin there. I thanked her with an explanation and then went to a nearby store to try and score some rolls. Ended up getting $20.00 (I exchanged the new rolls) worth from 2 places. So Saturday night I found 7 Wheats out of those - Oldest being a 1920 ! Happy weekend ending Edited by eaglefoot

Too bad about the 16-Ds, but 7 wheats isn't bad for $20, especially if you got a 1920.

I got a $100.00 box of nickels and two $25.00 boxes of cents today, much to my wife's horror....lol...after much convincing that I will put ALL the money BACK next monday...she seemed a little less perturbed. ..  I will be posting my results ! Edited by eaglefoot

On Tuesday I got a $1 star in my change (2006 J01087056*), which is well worn.
Today at lunch, I was sitting by the aisle and saw a dollar on the floor in the middle of the aisle a few tables away. Nobody seemed to notice, so I went over and picked it up. It's nothing special, but I'll take a free dollar any day.
