Sunday night, I picked up a 5 gallon plastic water jug full of change to sort through. It must have weighed around 135 pounds. I'm almost through. I found two silver dimes, '52 and '64, a 1905 victory nickle, 10 wheat pennies, a 1940 Jefferson nickle with a big D above Monticello and a few other nickles spanning the war era and into the fifties. I've recovered about 50 or 60 rolls of pre-1982 cents and a few nice State Quarters from the early years that I slept through, unaware of coin collecting. There were only three foriegn coins in my batch, three Canadian pennies (1-1949) and one Mexican coin.

ichirensha, Some nice finds. A lot of work, but then it's fun, and you never know when you might find something super.

Went to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 tonight and bought a large coke for $4.04 Paid with a five and got 96 cents change. The penny was a 1880 Indian Head cent in VG condition. First time I ever got anything that old in change. I thought it was a Canadian at first. That coke was a good investment.

Got a 1924 Lincoln Wheat cent in change a couple months back. I think it is the oldest I ever got.

Also, not from circulation, but I'm pretty excited about it.
JFK Half Dollars are my favorite coins, and today I learned of a variation which I wasn't aware existed. There's no place for them in coin albums, but they are listed in price guides.
Anyway, I bought an MS-63 for $8.
It's a 1982 JFK, without the designer's initials on the reverse side. Evidentally a filled die caused this "error" or variety.
So, nope, it's not from circulation, but from my coin dealer's hand to mine, and happy to have it as an addition to my collection.

Good day today! My co-workers let the loose coin pile up while I was on vacation (as usual, I think it would kill them to try to bag it up ) but I won't complain too much because I found some good stuff. Twelve wheat cents, one was a 1918 and two were in the 30's, and a 1962-D dime. I also found something that is probably the strangest thing I have ever found in the coin, but I'm gonna have to keep you hanging on that one. I've taken some pictures, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post the blasted things. (See testing forum for my plea for help) Keep watching, I'll get some pictures one way or another! I was over on vacation at the beach, boogie boarding and getting sunburned. But that's another story. My dad went to the tiki bar to get a couple of cokes, and got 3 wheaties and a 1964 quarter in change. It really makes you want to wonder how long those coins were sitting in the cash drawer. I wanted to go back and look through all the change, but we didn't have time.

You can't get much luckier than that.
