This one could be different. It is a VERY reasonably priced set and is a unique coin with an extremely low mintage.
I don't think a sellout will spike the price of the set in fact, the huge numbers that were ordered on 12/3-4 and before that will continue to flood the market and prevent ANY price rise. Once that glut is absorbed it will set the stage for a slowly increasing price for the set...not moon money but I can see $50, which is VERY affordable, for a raw package in the near distant future which translates to around a 350% increase. Right now it is not a huge cash outlay to put away a few sets at these present bargain prices...and...BTW putting profit aside is IS also a nice collectable
These can't be bunched in with price histories of standard Mint or Proof sets where the mintage is huge...totally different beast. If this set is only at $30 in a year just compare that increase to a clad proof set price in a year.
It will be even better if, in 2015, the Mint decides to offer a similar set with an EU SAC but with a mintage of 100-200k and HH limits (and I hope they put a more interesting note inside this time). It will make this issue a key in the series....if not then it will do fine on its own.
IMHO..

Out of stock again - let's see for how long this cat and mouse game will go on. The next sales report issued sometime Tue PM should provide a few clues!

Someone who posted on the MNB reported that a single order for 5000 sets was placed. One can only assume it was the HSN - I guess they'll have them graded and sell the rubbish for $50 per set.

I do not understand why they keep bouncing between "backordered" and "out of stock"
Obviously when something is backordered you do not have any present stock available to ship so it is equally "out of stock"
For customer ordering purposes it is kinda irrelevant to know exactly when they WILL be back in stock but, unless they are sold out, they should keep the backorder link to order until the 50k is actually sold out. Then put "sold out" on the page.
...but if you look back on the Mint webpage even the 2012-13 issues that long ago sold out do not say "sold out"...they all say "out of stock" ...like this C & C set

The status doesn't always change. The order I placed on the 10th, back ordered, was shipped within a day and the status never changed. I've ordered other items that said "Back Order" but they had to have been in stock as my order was shipped right away and the status never changed. I don't know why it happens but I've seen it happen before. But no where near this many times. I hope this isn't going to start happening with other new products. This has been the worse experience I've ever had with the mint. And when you contact customer service 5 times and get 5 different answers, it's obvious the customers aren't the only ones in the dark. Had I known this was an EU coin I would have ordered when it first went on sale and had mine by now. Then again, maybe not.

Some of the oldies DO say that they are sold out and no longer available... Side note: my 16 coins sent to NGC have been graded and will ship today. They received them on the 8th and they were all packaged up and ready to ship on the 15th...not bad

The discussion was about the website and the back and forth backordered vs. OOS and the ability TO place an order or not.

I misunderstood your post. To make sure it doesn't happen again, I'll just read the posts and keep my thoughts/opinions to myself.

^ No need for that. These forums are there to share your thoughts & opinions (within limits, of course) - wouldn't it be boring if we were all to agree on everything?

Gone - Excel file sales report from the US Mint (adjustments have occurred though lately to the numbers posted there): 2014 AMERICAN $1 COIN & CURRENCY SET 50,000 12/14/2014 N Let's see where prices will be come Dec 2015. Anyone care to guess? Mine is $50.

My guess is this will be selling in the neighborhood of $15 to $20 in a year's time after the hype dies down and collectors have moved on to the "next big thing" put out by the mint.

Thanks omxfl for the research...
My guess for the price in a year would conservatively be around $30-35.
It will be higher if they do another EU set in 2015 with a higher mintage and HH limits making this the key coin of the type.

Currently these sets are averaging $30 on ebay. It's hard to say what they will go for in a year. However with only 50K sets, I think these sets will hold a higher premium than the 2013 West Point ASE set after its first year. Let's hope this coin has production flaws like the 2014S EU silver Kennedy. It is outrageous what the deep proof like (DPL) finishes are selling for on ebay. MCM wants $99 for a SP69 NA coin with free GEM Note.

Quick question to those who order multiples of this set: Did the notes in your sets have consecutive serial numbers? Or random?
Thanks
