I think it was a great idea of the Mint selling a low-cost/low-mintage coin set. Though they need to work out the bugs in their logistics so they do not repeat the fiasco with this coin set.

I totally agree.

But whatever system they put in place to prevent hording, there are always some who manage to get hundreds. This is why I prefer the "limited window mint to demand" offerings - one month, everyone can buy it and as many as they like. After one month the product is no longer available. That's it. It's fair to everyone, although past occurrences of this have led to poor secondary market performance of items sold this way (e.g. RP Buffalo).

The market will come down/stabilize w/in a year, after all coins are shipped and people got their submitted coins back.

Insane.

What's even more insane is that it appears the seller declined an offer of $2999.00 just two days before he accepted the $2k offer.

This could have been because it was an offer from someone outside the US (although the seller stated that he/she will only sell to someone residing in the US).
In any case, it's a nice profit!

Well, I fell asleep in November and December because I was busy with finals and recovering from them, and now I find I missed this. Guess it's time to go to ebay so I can have one and keep on having an example of every enhanced uncirculated coin.

I apologize if this has already been discussed in this thread, but it's up to page 22 and I last read it at page 13. I called the Mint today and got a strange/good/scary response in regards to this C&C set. I asked about my order status because it STILL says Backorder. I pressed the operator for more information on the set, saying that I read in the CoinUpdate.com sales reports that all 50,000 sets were sold, so why doesn't the Mint just cancel the orders of those of us stuck in limbo. He said that the mint may still sell the product again because there is no mintage limit for this offering. But I reminded him that there is a product limit of 50,000. He just restated that they may sell them again because there is no mintage limit.

Hopefully this won't be another occurrence like the 2012 San Francisco Eagle set where after sales were concluded the Mint decided to sell the 2012-S proof eagle also in the Making American History C&C set.

Call them 6 more times and you'll get 6 different answers, even if you managed to get the same customer service rep. He said what he did because he didn't know what else to say. The item still says "out of stock", so when they finally change that to "sold out" the backorders will be cancelled.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Mint is expecting a certain amount of returns to fulfill the back-orders. Be patient until the Mint cancels your order.

We may also have a situation similar to the Baseball HOF silver coins - officially sold out, but due to incorrect credit card details certain orders cannot be filled and these coins were eventually sold again. I think this scenario is unlikely, but you never know with the US Mint.
And yes, TJB17 may well have accurate information. If you read the US Mint product page correctly, there is no mintage limit, just a set maximum. Of course, any additional coins being released will kill the secondary market value of this set.

Apparently one of them sold.

Bought one on ebay for less than a third of that price. Happy to have a complete EU set again.

For those who ordered late, don't give up hope! My order from 12/11 just shipped today, after 'processing' for many weeks. I was completely shocked to see that.
