The other thing worth noting is that the 'remind me' button has disappeared. I guess it's safe to assume the mint sold the remaining 36k sets now.

I just saw this conversation on the US Mint FB site:
Mint Ring Has Native American $1 Coins and currency set sold out? The mint web show out of stock. Like · Reply · 26 minutes ago
United States Mint No, the set is not sold out. When products are in an "Out of Stock" status, this means we do not have inventory of the product and we do not have an anticipated in stock date. Products in this status cannot be ordered online or through our customer contact center, but you can request to be reminded when the product will be returning to sale (through the "Remind Me" function on the product detail page.) As mentioned in this thread the "remind me button" left this planet 2 days ago...and the site was up for ordering again yesterday morning (no remind me's sent to ANYONE") ...and now "out of stock" again I would NOT assume they are sold out until the site says, well, "sold out" ...and re: the FB page....bogus definition of OOS and the nonfunctional "remind me" button...it isn't there.

I ordered 25 coin & currency sets 12-3...the mint billed me, even though it said BACKORDER on page, so, I wasn't expecting much..checked just now, and, is says SHIPPED! And, page shows OUT OF STOCK....did the "Big Boys" order all the rest, or? This is without a doubt, the weirdest mint product I have ever delt with..just glad to have my 25, in case this turns out to be a key date/finish coin. CG Order Summary Order Placed: 12/3/14 Order Status: SHIPPED
American $1 Coin and Currency $13.95 Qty 25 Total: $348.75

Yikes, $100! And it's a 69, not a 70. I thought the $14 asking price at the mint was already almost pushing it.

Compared to some other auctions on the bay, the $100 is a steal for a 69. Other first strikes are up to $150... goodness.

It may be a steal right now, but maybe not a few months from now...
The only ones making money on these are (and not necessarily in that order): The US Mint MCM NGC/PCGS Some early bird flippers
The ones who will lose money are those who pay $99+ for a 69 Sac right now in the hope to sell for more in 5-10 years from now.
That's just my assessment, of course. :)

O I agree completely with you Omxfl. I only was suggesting it would be a steal for some people who don't know better. Not me, I bought all mine for $14 from the mint and can do without the grading.

As you correctly stated "Compared to" they are a steal...$150-160 last couple of days...$189 before that There will be VERY few 70's from this issue...69 will be the top affordable grade for most ...and about "only those who are making money"....anyone who sells a set is making money but Hang on to them and see what they sell for in a couple of years...the dump will be on soon (if not already) and it is not the best time to sell...

Let me get this straight: The entire set costs $13.95 from the mint and includes the coin, the banknote and a folder. Apparently, it's a bargain to pay $99 (or some $85 more!) to receive the banknote in a protected sleeve and the coin in a plastic holder, both graded by a private company (69, not 70 we're talking here), and without the folder. Do I need to have my head examined?

I'm getting real aggravated with the mint on this one..I placed my order December 3rd and my order is still processing ..I've called them and I can never get a straight answer as to when it will ship. I wrote them emails and they don't return them.

@jastratton: May I ask why you are in such a rush? It looks like it has been less than 48 hours since you placed your order. It sometimes takes longer than that for an order to be processed - sometimes much longer.

Quote: Do I need to have my head examined? That's a question only you can answer...but...you probably do have to update yourself with the world of collecting graded coins and familiarize yourself with the top grades of each variety. Just because you do not believe in something doesn't mean the rest of numismatics agrees with your beliefs. Investment coins are best bought and sold in a package that assigns a grade and guarantees the authenticity of the coin. If you are an album kinda person this obviously doesn't pertain to you and that's fine...that's collecting in its purest form BTW...the 69 grade of the SAC dollar is the highest grade given so far. NGC has not graded ANY MS70's in the 14 year history of the coin. This issue MIGHT have a few though...
